It is located into the old church dependences.

The museum of Martizay shows collections made by finds and items from managed excavations on Martizay territory.

According to the founder , M Jean Louis Soubrier: "The goal of this very local museum (is) only to show materials that are and will be found at Martizay".

The museum of Martizay was created in 1983 by the will of M Jean Louis Soubrier, president of the Society "Amis du Vieux Martizay", and M Rene Chabot, mayor of Martizay and the Town Council.

This museum offers a very rich idea of the Society collections but unfortunately some materials are not shown to the public because of the lack of room. Like the skeleton of the Martizean ancestor from Merovingian Age, or like some wall paintings and mosaics, and so on.

There are two essential thems: Prehistory and Gallo-Roman and Merovingian time.

This museum is member of the museographic network of the Regional Natural Park of La Brenne, and member of the departmental network "visa 36".

Facing the responsibility of showing entire collections to the maximum of people at the same time (like schoolar groups), our association is hardly dealing to get the creation of a new museum. A bigger museum with more room to welcome a group of visitors. In fact a modern museum.
